Power issues in Louisiana after Ida

Hurricane Ida struck Louisiana back in August, causing widespread and devastating damage to Entergy’s infrastructure, leaving the utility company to deal with millions of dollars in damage.  

Ida destroyed more utility poles than hurricanes Katrina, Ike, Delta and Zeta combined. Customer outages peaked statewide at nearly 902,000 customers.

Power outage numbers will continue to fluctuate throughout the day as crews are working on lines and switching customers in and out.

While restoration from Ida continues, Entergy says its crews and contractors in Louisiana are prepared to respond if necessary following Tropical Storm Nicholas.

Just because power is available does not mean a home is ready to accept it. Residents should check for damage to the electrical equipment that is attached to their home or business and contact an electrician to make any needed repairs.

During the aftermath of the hurricane, the state experienced fuel shortages. More than 50% of gas stations in New Orleans and Baton Rouge didn’t have gasoline Tuesday afternoon, according to GasBuddy.com.

“Always avoid downed power lines and electrical equipment and use caution when clearing debris from around your home or business for your safety,” they say.
